Some people prefer to get their hair cut every couple of weeks, and some wait until it is no longer manageable. While everyone knows you need regular haircuts to keep it strong and healthy, you may not know when the best time is. The general rule of thumb is to have your hair trimmed every six to eight weeks, but the frequency of your haircut depends on your hair type, length, and texture. Keep reading to see if it’s time for you to schedule an appointment for a haircut!
Short Hair
If you have a short hairstyle, such as a pixie cut or bowl cut, you will have more frequent haircuts to keep it looking its best. When you have short hair, you will want to get your hair cut every month or so; in some cases, you may be able to stretch it to six weeks.
Medium Hair
If your hair falls into the middle length category, you will want to cut it every six to eight weeks to keep it the same length. But if you want to grow it out longer, you can wait about eight to twelve weeks.
Long Hair
Long hair requires much less maintenance than shorter hairstyles. When you have long hair, it is best to get it trimmed every three to six months. If you have noticed split ends or frequent snags, you may want to schedule an appointment sooner.
Curly Hair
If you have curly or wavy hair, you will generally want to get your hair cut every six to twelve weeks. When you have curlier hair, you can put it in various styles allowing you to wait longer for a trim. But it may be time for a trim if your curls start to lose shape.
